Q: What are the differences between using LDAP on DS 2.2 vs DS 3.0? I have a customer considering an upgrade that wants LDAP, but needs convincing that the LDAP implementation in DS 3.0 is superior enough to warrant the expense.
A: LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) allows organizations to centrally manage and share information on network resources, users and user groups while acting as the central authority for network security (authentication). With LDAP enabled, a user can utilize the same login for DocuShare as is used to logon to a desktop on the network. In DS2.2, we provided limited LDAP support for Netscape's iPlanet Directory Services. This functionality has been greatly enhanced in the 3.0 release. DocuShare 3.0 now also offers support for Microsoft's Active Directory Services
